The Big Ten Recognizes Paula Infante For Hispanic Heritage Month

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Big Ten recognized alumni Paula Infante for National Hispanic Heritage Month on Tuesday.

Infante, who played at Maryland from 2003-2006, dominated the NCAA field hockey competition throughout her time in College Park.

The Chile native achieved one of the rarest collegiate feats possible as she was a four-time First Team All-American during her four years at Maryland. Infante's Terp teams compiled an astounding 83-14 record during her storied career.

Other accolades include two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and a two-time Honda Sports Award winner.

The former Terp helped lead Maryland to back-to-back NCAA titles in her junior and senior seasons (2005, 2006). Her 58 goals are No. 9 on the Terps all-time list. In 2004, Infante set an NCAA Tournament record as a sophomore, when she became the first woman to score five goals, with 10 points in a single game against Delaware. Paula was inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.

After her time in college, Infante returned home and became the captain of the Chilean National Team. Infante medaled at two major tournaments throughout her career, winning bronze at the 2009 Pan American Cup and the 2011 Pan American Games.
