ROSEMONT, ILL -- The Maryland women's basketball team was predicted to finish second in the league by both the league's head coaches and media panel. 

Seniors Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle were both named to the 10-player Preseason All-Big Ten Team by both groups as well. 

Garzon comes to College Park after playing three seasons at Indiana, where she earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors. Garzon averaged 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists per game last year as the Hoosiers' leading scorer. She led the Big Ten in three-pointers made (88) and was second in the league in three-point percentage (40.7%).

Smikle earned All-Big Ten First Team honors from the media and Second Team honors from the league's head coaches last year. She led Maryland in scoring with 17.9 points per game and in steals with 50 on the year. Smikle was second in the Big Ten in free throws made (164 while averaging 82.4 percent from the foul line. 

UCLA was voted to win the Big Ten by both the coaches and the media panel. The coaches voted Michigan to finish third and USC fourth. The media panel selected USC to finish third and Michigan fourth. Both groups predicted Ohio State to finish fifth. 

The Terps earned a record of 25-8 last season and tied Ohio State for third in the Big Ten with a record of 13-5 in conference play. The Terps advanced to their fourth Sweet Sixteen in five years and finished the year ranked No. 12 in the final Associated Press poll. 
 
Maryland returns All-Big Ten honoree Bri McDaniel and starter Saylor Poffenbarger. Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff signed two transfers in Garzon and 2025 ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Oluchi Okananwa (Duke). The Terrapins also welcome freshmen Lea Bartelme, Addi Mack, Rainey Welson, Nicole Fritea and Marya Boiko to the roster.
