Defensive Dominance
  • The Terps have allowed just 10 total points in the first half of games this season. That total is the fewest they have allowed in the first half of the first five games of the season this century. The previous low for points allowed through five games in the first half since 1996, came in the 2001 ACC Championship season when Maryland allowed just 30 points in the first halves of its first five games.
  • Maryland is one of four Big Ten teams to not allow a score on its opponents' opening possession this season (Nebraska, Oregon, Minnesota). The Terps have allowed seven total points in the first quarter this season, tied with Oregon for second fewest in the Big Ten (Ohio State, three).
  • In allowing just 10 points in the first half of its first two conference games, Maryland is allowing the fourth-fewest total points through two Big Ten games by any team since 1996. Only 2019 Wisconsin (3 points), 2012 Penn State (6 points) and 2025 Ohio State (6 points) have allowed fewer since 1996.
  • Maryland posted its seventh shutout of a Big Ten opponent in a first half since joining the league with its 13-0 lead against Washington last week. The Terps also blanked Wisconsin on the road on Sept. 27. This marked the first time since joining the Big Ten that Maryland shutout consecutive conference opponents in the first half of games.
  • This is also the first time Maryland has blanked two Big Ten opponents in the first half of any two games in a season since joining the conference.
  • The last time Maryland had back-to-back first-half shutouts of conference opponents came in 2003 when the Terps held Duke and Georgia Tech scoreless for the first 30 minutes in consecutive games on Oct. 11 and Oct. 23, 2003.
  • Overall, Maryland has 11 quarters (of 20) that it has pitched a shutout this season.
