Four Terps Drafted in MLS SuperDraft

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland men's soccer had four student-athletes selected in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, Dec. 18. They were Sadam Masereka, Colin Griffith, Stephane Njike and Lasse Kelp.

Maryland men's soccer has now had 62 total MLS SuperDraft selections while having 25 in the last 22 SuperDrafts. It also marks the sixth consecutive season with a Terrapin being selected in the SuperDraft.

Sadam Masereka, was selected 34th overall by Sporting Kansas City. Masereka, who led the Terps in both points and goals, delivered a standout senior season that earned him All-Big Ten First Team honors. His year was highlighted by a first-half hat trick in the regular-season finale at Michigan State — Maryland's first hat trick since 2017 and first in a single half since 2005.

Colin Griffith was selected 45th overall by the Portland Timbers. Griffith had his best season to date in College Park in 2024, finishing the campaign with a career-high six goals and one assist. Griffith's six goals on the season were tied for the seventh-most in the Big Ten. Griffith had a run during the season where the junior scored in four consecutive matches. That total is the most for a Terp since Ben Bender, who scored in five-straight games in 2021.

Stephane Njike, was selected 61st overall by D.C. United. Njike, an All-Big Ten First Team selection, finished second on the team in goals, assists, and points, and led the Terps with four game-winning goals.

Lasse Kelp, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, was selected 85th overall by D.C. United. Kelp anchored one of the nation's top defensive units, playing all 1,730 minutes this season — the full 90 in every match, plus 110 in the NCAA Tournament game vs. UNC. Maryland led the Big Ten in goal differential and recorded nine shutouts, allowing just 12 goals in the regular season. Kelp added one goal and two assists, including a critical 85th-minute equalizer at Penn State.
