Lewis Homers In Loss To No. 8 Texas Tech, 4-1

AUSTIN, TX – Maryland softball put up a fight but ultimately lost to No. 8 Texas Tech, 4-1, in the Bevo Classic at Red and Charline McCombs Field on Saturday afternoon. The Terps are now 4-4 overall on the season.  

Neither team recorded a hit until the top of the fourth inning, as Caitlyn Cornwell singled to center field. Bri Godfrey started in the circle and pitched four hitless innings to begin the game. She finished her outing pitching 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Julia Shearer pitched the remaining 0.2 innings, striking out two Red Raiders.   

Texas Tech scored all of its runs in the fifth inning. Sydney Lews scored Maryland's lone run with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. It was the ninth of her career and her second of the season. Sam Bean recorded the third and final hit for the Terps.    

Texas Tech improved to 8-3 overall. All-American pitcher NiJaree Canady pitched five innings and struck out 10 batters. She improved to 4-2 in the circle this season.  

The Terps will play No. 1 Texas tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the second time this weekend.  


Breaking Down The Action
