NASHVILLE, TN – Maryland softball took game two of its doubleheader in five innings against Belmont, 8-0, at Rose Park on Friday evening. The Terps improved to 6-9 on the season. They will play the Bruins in a rubber match to wrap up their three-game series tomorrow, March 1.
The Terps scored at least one run in the first five innings, including a three-run top of the first inning that gave them a lead they never relinquished.
Matti Benson drove in three runs for Maryland. It was the freshman's third multi-RBI game.
Taylor Borovac scored the eighth run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
Julia Shearer had a dominant outing in the circle. She pitched her first career shutout and fourth career complete game. The sophomore surrendered just four hits and struck out four Belmont (11-7) batters. She also earned her fifth career win and her second of the season.
Sam Bean clubbed her first career home run as a Terp in the fourth inning. It was a solo shot and the 11th overall of her career. Bean, a transfer from Lamar, missed the entire 2024 season because of an injury. She went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Mazie MacFarlane, Caitlyn Cornwell and Sammi Woods were the other Terps to drive in a run. MacFarlane went 4-for-4 with two runs. Cornwell went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Bailey Murphy recorded multiple hits going 2-for-3

- The Terps got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with five hits, already surpassing their hit total in game one. Caitlyn Cornwell singled on a bunt, driving in the game's first run. Matti Benson then flew out on a sacrifice fly to bring home another. Sammi Woods then brought home the final run on an error made by the shortstop.
- Maryland added two more runs to take a 5-0 lead in the second. Benson drove in two runs after reaching on an error.
