Terps Fall To Belmont In Series Finale

NASHVILLE, TN – Maryland softball was defeated by Belmont, 9-1, in game three of its series at Rose Park on Saturday. The Bruins (12-7) won the series, as they took game one of the doubleheader yesterday, Feb. 28. The Terps are now 6-10 overall heading into their home opener against Saint Joseph's on March 4.  

The Terps trailed 2-1 after Sam Bean drove in Gracie Wilson in the top of the fourth. However, the Bruins plated five runs in the bottom of the inning to break the game open and lead 7-1. They later scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. 

Bean was one of five different terps who recorded a hit. The others were Mazie MacFarlane, Sydney Lewis, Bailey Murphy and Madison Runyan. Lewis had the only extra base hit for the Terps with a double. 

Keira Bucher made her fourth career start in the circle. She struck out two batters in 3.1 innings pitched. Aubrey Wurst pitched 1.1 innings in relief.  

Three different players for Belmont recorded multiple RBIs. Its pitcher, Rayna Cruickshanks, pitched a complete game.

  • Belmont scored two runs in the bottom of the second. 
  • The Terps got on the board as Sam Bean singled, driving in a run. Maryland trailed 2-1 in the top of the fourth. 
  • The Bruins scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. Two came off singles, and they led 7-1. 
  • Belmont ended the game in the bottom of the fifth by scoring two runs on back-to-back walks with bases loaded.

  • Maryland will host Saint Joseph's for its home season opener in College Park on March 4. The first pitch for that game is at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
