COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland softball team returns home to host UMES on Tuesday night in a midweek nonconference matchup before a bye weekend.

- Maryland enters the game with a 15-25 overall record and a 3-13 Big Ten record after opening conference play.
- This past weekend against Iowa, the Terps fell in all three games to the Hawkeyes 1-6, 0-9, and 2-7. In the first game, Sydney Lewis provided the Terps' lone run with an RBI single in the first, scoring Mazie MacFarlane, who extended her on-base streak to 27 games. Iowa pulled ahead with a four-run second inning. Keira Bucher pitched 5.2 innings in relief, allowing just two runs on six hits. In the second game, The Hawkeyes built an early 4-0 lead and added five runs in the fifth to secure the win. Sydney Lewis and Bailey Murphy each recorded a hit for the Terps. Julia Shearer struck out five over 4.2 innings, while Aubrey Wurst recorded the final out with a strikeout. In the final game, Sydney Lewis led the Terps at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run—her ninth of the season and 15th of her career. Taylor Borovac added an RBI single in the sixth. Julia Shearer and Sammi Woods also posted multi-hit games. Keira Bucher started in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings, while Shearer closed out the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.
- UMES enters the matchup with a 3-30 overall record and a 2-12 record in the MEAC. This past weekend, the Hawks lost two games to MEAC rival, North Carolina Central University. They fell in the first game 2-4 and the second 0-4.
- Clarke Calvin leas the Hawk hitting with a team high batting average of .295 and seven RBI. She also leads the team in doubles so far this season with seven. McKenzie Abiley and Paige Perkins lead the Hawks in home runs each hitting two a piece.
- Pitching wise, the Hawks UMES has pitched three pitchers so far this season with Kassidy Oneail making the most appearances and starts so far this season, with 33 appearances and 17 starts. She holds the team's lowest ERA with a 8.01 and has the a team high 47 strikeouts this season.
- UMES and Maryland have faced off 10 times within both program's history dating back to their first meeting in 1995. Maryland has won all 10 games with their last meeting being in 2023 where Maryland defeated the Hawks 10-0 in College Park.

- 2024 All-Big Ten Second Team honorees Mazie MacFarlane and Sydney Lewis have carried their momentum into the 2025 season with standout performances.
- MacFarlane currently ranks third on the team with a .309 batting average and leads Maryland in both hits (38) and doubles (13). She stood out in the series win over Rutgers, going 4-for-7 across the two victories, launching two home runs, and driving in five RBIs, all while maintaining a perfect fielding percentage.
- Lewis has already surpassed her home run total from last season, hitting nine so far in 2025 and leads the team in batting average and RBI with a .336 batting average and 28 RBI. She came through with a clutch performance in game one against Indiana, blasting her eighth homer of the season in the top of the first inning to get the Terps on the board early.

A Look Into the Terps' Pitching Staff
- Junior Bri Godfrey and freshman Aubrey Wurst lead the Maryland pitching staff, each earning five wins this season. Godfrey holds a 5.27 ERA with 36 strikeouts. She has thrown four complete games, including two shutouts. Wurst has 37 strikeouts and carries a 4.51 ERA.
- Sophomore Julia Shearer, who also sees time in right field, has contributed four complete games and two shutouts. She holds a 6.38 ERA with a team high 43 strikeouts on the year.
- Junior Keira Booker, who has primarily served as a relief pitcher but has recently taken on more starts, owns a 4.89 ERA. She has made 15 appearances, recording 29 strikeouts while issuing 29 walks.
