COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Terps return home for their final Big Ten series of the 2025 season as they host Penn State at Maryland Softball Stadium. Maryland will honor its two graduate seniors, Sam Bean and Mazie MacFarlane, following Sunday's game. Due to inclement weather, the start time for Saturday's game has been adjusted to 5:00 PM.

matchup preview
  • Maryland enters the weekend with a 17-25 overall record and a 3-13 mark in Big Ten play. The Terps are coming off a dominant 11-1 run-rule victory over Delaware, powered by freshman Aubrey Wurst's fourth complete game of the season. Wurst allowed just one run on four hits to improve to 7-2. Maryland responded to an early 1-0 deficit with 11 unanswered runs, with Sam Bean and Sydney Lewis each recording three RBIs. Bean crushed her seventh home run of the season and 15th of her career, while Julia Shearer and Caitlyn Cornwell also posted multi-RBI performances. Sammi Woods went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as eight different Terps notched hits in the win.
  • Penn State enters the weekend with a 20-24 overall record and a 6-10 mark in Big Ten play, sitting 12th in the conference standings. Last weekend, the Nittany Lions were swept on the road at Iowa, falling 1-2, 2-10, and 1-3.
  • Offensively, Brooke Klosowicz leads the way for Penn State with a team-high .438 batting average, 56 hits, 19 doubles, 46 RBIs, and 11 home runs. She ranks eighth in the Big Ten in hits and ninth in batting average.
  • In the circle, Mady Volpe leads the Nittany Lions in appearances (40), starts (23), and ERA (4.48), collecting seven wins and 66 strikeouts while allowing 101 hits. Abigail Britton has also played a key role, posting six wins with a team-high 74 strikeouts and a 5.78 ERA across 34 appearances.
  • Maryland and Penn State have met 40 times since 2000, with Penn State holding a 23-17 edge in the all-time series. Maryland won the most recent meeting, a 3-1 extra-inning victory in last year's Big Ten Tournament. The Terps are 10-12 against the Nittany Lions in College Park and have split the last 10 matchups 5-5.
