
White Tops Red In Annual Spring Game, 31-28

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland football completed its spring practice season with its annual Red-White Spring Game, with the white team defeating the red team, 31-28, on Saturday at SECU Stadium.
Maryland fans were treated to a special afternoon as the Terps returned to the field for the first time since 2024. The game coincided with Maryland Day, a celebration featuring hundreds of free events happening around campus. The events featured interactive demonstrations, performances and workshops showcasing science and tech, the arts, sports, agriculture and more.
Khristian Martin (white), Malik Washington (red) and Justyn Martin (red) impressed as passers. Khristian Martin went 16-of-23 for 269 yards with four touchdown passes for team white. Washington completed 12-of-18 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Justyn Martin went 6-of-14 for 69 yards and a score. Together, they combined for seven TD passes. Khristian Martin was selected by the media as the Red-White MVP.
The receiving game was led by Mekhai White (white) and Ryan Manning (red), as both wide receivers went over 100 yards receiving. Manning hauled in five passes for 128 yards and a score. White caught four passes for 111 yards and scored twice.
Defensively, DD Holmes led the red team with three sacks. He was named the Ray Krouse Most Valuable Lineman of the game. Ricardo Cooper Jr. also intercepted a pass and recorded three tackles. Keyshawn Flowers intercepted a pass, and Daniel Wingate posted a sack for the white team.
Other standouts offensively were WR Josiah McLaurin (4 rec, 61 yards), Jahmari Powell-Wonson (2 rec, 65 yards, TD), Octavian Smith Jr. (5 rec, 17 yards, TD) and Leon Haughton Jr. (2 rec, 29 yards, TD).
Both offenses combined for 615 yards, including 531 yards passing, and went 6-for-6 on redzone opportunities.

- Khristian Martin connected with Mekhai White on a go-route for a completion of 42 yards on Team White's first drive. Martin then found White for a 15-yard opening drive touchdown reception.
- Martin completed a first down to Josiah McLaurin on a run-pass option to kickstart white's second drive. The drive ended in another TD reception by White (18 yards) on a fade to the back left corner of the endzone. Thomas McLuskey also had a first-down catch on the drive. Team White led 14-0.
- Martin rushed for a first down on Team Red's first down. DeJuan Williams and Dorian Fleming (24 yards) then moved the chains with receptions before Octavian Smith Jr. caught a two-yard TD on an out route. Team Red trailed 14-7.
- Roman Jensen threw a pass to a wide-open Martin on a trick play on the first play of Team White's third drive. Colin Reynolds and McLaurin also had first-down catches on the drive that ended in a field goal.
- Malik Washington dropped a pass in the bucket to Ryan Manning for 36 yards. DeJuan Williams then plunged for a goal-line score, and Team Red trailed 17-14 entering halftime.
- Martin connected with White again, this time for 34 yards to set up the white team in the red zone. Emerson Smith then caught a TD to put them up 24-14.
- Martin found Manning wide open for a score, the longest play of the day. He had another catch on the drive through contact. Red trailed 24-21.
- Iverson Howard broke free for a first-down run, and Smith moved the chains before Leon Haughton Jr. scored a TD on a pass from Washington perfectly placed on his back shoulder. The red team led 28-24.
- Jahmari Powell-Wonson caught a 58-yard TD to put the white team ahead 31-28.

- Dontay Joyner broke up a third-down pass intended for Ryan Manning to force a punt on the red team's opening drive.
- Jalen Huskey dragged down Octavian Smith Jr. behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of three yards.
- DD Holmes sacked Roman Jensen to force a Team White punt. He had back-to-back sacks on the drive.
- Keyshawn Flowers intercepted a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage for Team White.
- Jamare Glasker recorded a tackle-for-loss on a screen pass for Team White.
- Ricardo Cooper Jr. intercepted a pass for Team Red.

- Bryce McFerson boomed a punt inside the five to the four-yard line after a three-and-out for Team Red.
- Ryan Capriotti drilled a 34-yard field goal to increase Team White's lead to 17-7 with 3:06 left before halftime.
- McFerson punted another ball 54 yards inside the 20-yard line.
- Former Terps Vernon Davis (2003-05), Ellis McKennie (2015-19), Kevin Glover (1982-84), Geroy Simon (1993-96) and Ricardo Dickerson (2001-05) were in attendance for today's game.
- Newly acquired Commanders WR Deebo Samuel was also in attendance. The former 49ers First-team is a former All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
