
Terps Fall To Hoosiers In Game One Of Doubleheader, 2-0

BLOOMINGTON, IN – Despite a strong effort in the circle by sophomore pitcher Julia Shearer, Maryland softball was defeated by Indiana at Andy Mohr Field on Monday morning. The Terps are now 15-21 overall and 3-9 in Big Ten play heading into game two of the doubleheader.
Shearer pitched her seventh complete game of her career. Including her fifth of the season. She stifled Indiana (25-10, 5-6 Big Ten) batters by giving up just two runs on five hits. She also struck out four batters while walking just one. Shearer even shut out Indiana in the final three innings to give her team a chance to mount a comeback.
Mazie MacFarlane, Mariah Penta, Bailey Murphy and Madison Runyan were the lone Terps to record hits in the contest. MacFarlane hit a double off the wall in the fifth. The hit put her and Murphy in scoring position, representing the game-tying runs, but the Terps couldn't capitalize with two outs.
