Terps Drop Game Two Of Doubleheader With Hoosiers, 6-3

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, IN – Despite a valiant effort, Maryland softball was defeated by Indiana, 6-3, in its series finale and game two of a doubleheader at Andy Mohr Field on Monday. The Terps are now 15-22 overall and 3-10 in Big Ten play heading into their series against Iowa. 

Keira Bucher pitched 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, surrendering just one run on four hits to Indiana (26-10, 6-6 Big Ten) batters. However, the Terps couldn't overcome the five-run deficit they faced in the top of the fifth. They consistently got runners on base but left 10 runners on the bags. 

Maryland scored three runs in the third and fourth innings Mazie MacFarlane recorded an RBI single to extend her on-base streak to 26 games. Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan were credited with RBIs as well, bringing in runs with the help of errors by Hoosier defenders. 

  Maryland's runs made it a two-score game before Indiana plated one final run in the sixth. Bucher pitched 4.1 scoreless innings up to the Hoosier's final run. She finished with two strikeouts. 

MacFarlane, Julia Shearer and Taylor Borovac all notched hits in the contest. Sydney Lewis drew a career-best three walks.

  • The Hoosiers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer.
  • The Terps loaded the bases in the top of the second but couldn't bring a runner home.
  • Indiana added three runs in the third to lead 5-0. However, Keria Bucher worked out of a bases-loaded jam without allowing a run. 
  • Maryland put two runs on the board in the third with a couple of errors by Indiana. The Terps trailed 5-2.  
  • Mazie MacFarlane hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 5-3 game.
  • The Hoosiers plated one final run with an RBI triple in the sixth to lead 6-3.
