Jones II Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland baseball's Paul Jones II was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Jones II helped the Terrapins to a 4-0 week, including a sweep over Minnesota on the road. Jones II became the first Terp to be named the conference's freshman of the week since Brayden Martin back on March 25, 2024.

Jones II finished the week with a .385 batting average, two doubles, a home run, six RBIs, and a .556 on-base percentage. The Burnsville, MN native played a big role in Maryland's series sweep over Minnesota. Jones II opened the weekend by launching a three-run home run in a 8-2 win on Friday. He followed that up with a 2-4 day at the plate with a double and a run batted in to help the Terps to an 8-5 victory. Jones II closed out the weekend on Sunday with an RBI double to score the eventual winning run in an 11-10 win to clinch the series sweep for the Terps.

This season, Jones II has played in 15 games and made nine starts. In those 15 games, Jones II has a .296 batting average with three doubles, two home runs, and 12 RBI. Jones II has four multi-RBI games this season. His season-high for RBI this season came earlier in the year against Western Carolina back on Feb. 22, 2025. Jones II had four runs batted in in the contest, hitting a grand slam for his first collegiate home run.

Jones II and the Terps are back in action on Thursday as they begin their final conference series of 2025 at home against Rutgers. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM, with the game available on Big Ten Plus and the Maryland Baseball Network.
