ATLANTA -- Maryland baseball's Kyle McCoy was selected with the eighth round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. McCoy becomes the first Terp to be selected in the draft since 2023. McCoy becomes the 115th Terrapin selected in the MLB Draft, and the 13th selection in the last five years.
McCoy finished the 2025 season with a 6-3 record, a 3.32 ERA, and 71 strikeouts in 84 innings on the mound after missing all of the 2024 season. McCoy threw the third-most innings in the Big Ten, while striking out the ninth-most batters. McCoy had five or more strikeouts in nine outings during the regular season, holding a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.4:1. McCoy kept up his control all season long, walking just 21 batters in his 84 innings on the bump.
In his freshman season in College Park in 2023, McCoy earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. McCoy was a consistent presence as a freshman, sitting in the top five on the team in wins (4), innings pitched (52.2) and strikeouts (39). McCoy finished his Maryland career with 10 wins and 110 strikeouts across 137.1 innings pitched. McCoy reached 100 career strikeouts against Penn State back on May 2, 2025.
