Gough Named to the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA, GA – Maryland long snapper Ethan Gough has been named to the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the organization announced on Thursday.

The award recognizes college football players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) who exemplify community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement. Widely regarded as college football's premier award for community service, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy celebrates student-athletes who use their platforms to serve others and create positive change.

Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and University of Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, who turned his football success into a lifelong mission of service, the award reflects his legacy of leadership and humanitarianism.

"Every year, I'm deeply moved by these student-athletes," said Wuerffel. "They lead with their heart. Each of our nominees is making a real difference in the lives of others, and their stories remind us what true greatness looks like."

Gough is heavily involved in the community, working on the Gossett Fellows community service project where he served as the point person for a group of student-athletes that was able to raise $1,200 to provide hygiene kits for fifth grade children at an under resourced local elementary school. Gough has also volunteered his time at the Children's National Hospital and played a big role in the SAAC canned food drive in November 2024.

This summer, Gough and teammate Daniel Owens partnered with Uplifting Athletes for Maryland's Life For Life event to raise money for rare disease research. Both players volunteered to shave their heads if the team raised $10,000 and because of Gough's leadership, the team raised double their goal.

Gough, who attended DeMatha Catholic prior to arriving in College Park, has been Maryland's primary long snapper for each of the last three seasons. The senior helped punter Bryce McFerson finish second in the Big Ten in punting average (45.1 yards) last year.

Academically, Gough has graduated with a 3.804 GPA in Criminal Justice. He has been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and has been an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

The 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by a national voting committee, with input from a fan vote. The 2025 recipient will also serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on December 12th, airing on ESPN. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will follow on January 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
