COLLEGE PARK, MD - Coming off a standout performance at last weekend's Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State, Maryland's
Katie Dutko has been named the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office today. With this being her second honor of the season, Dutko becomes the first Terp to earn multiple weekly cross country accolades from the Big Ten since Maryland joined the league in 2014.
At the Spiked Shoe Invitational, the freshman from Rockville, MD, had another strong showing in her second collegiate race as she placed 24th overall (21:42.2) among the highly competitive field of 113 total runners. She was the third Terp to cross the finish line. Her time ranks second overall this season among all Big Ten freshmen for a 6K course. The meet featured five teams including nationally ranked Penn State and Syracuse.
Dutko also earned the weekly honor following Maryland's opening race at the Trials of Miles Opening Night XC25 where she placed 10th overall.
The Terps will return to action on Friday, October 3 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA.
