COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland's
Katie Dutko was named the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Dutko was the top freshman finisher for the Terps at the Trials of Miles Opening Night XC25 meet presented by New Balance.
The freshman took 10
th overall and was the third finisher for Maryland with a time of 18:19.7 on the 5K course at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA. Overall, her performance ranks 28
th overall among all league performers following the first weekend of competition.
This marks the first weekly honor of her career and the second consecutive year that Maryland has had a rookie earn the accolade to open the season. Current sophomore
Eva Rogers earned B1G Freshman of the Week honors last year following her first collegiate race as well.
A native of Rockville, MD, Dutko was a standout at Walter Johnson High School where she also competed in track, soccer, and lacrosse.
The Terps will return to action on Friday, Sept. 12 at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational in State College, PA.
