10/10/2026 4:15:00 PM | Football
Maryland is back in action for its homecoming game against Rutgers on Oct. 17.
Ohio State leaned on its passing attack to defeat Maryland on Saturday and improve to 5-1 (3-0 Big Ten). Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin threw four touchdowns, while Jeremiah Smith recorded 93 receiving yards — his fewest in Big Ten play — and two touchdowns. However, Maryland held its ninth consecutive opponent to fewer than 250 passing yards in a road game, tying the nation's longest streak.
Daniel Wingate scored Maryland's first defensive touchdown of the season with a 52-yard pick-six midway through the third quarter. Wingate led the team with 10 tackles, while Sidney Stewart and Zion Elee both forced fumbles a day where the Terps forced multiple turnovers against a top-5 ranked opponent for the first time since 2017.
Maryland's top offensive moment was a meticulous 11-play, 75-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes in the first half. Malik Washington capped the drive with a rushing touchdown to become the fifth Maryland quarterback since 1996 to have 20+ passing touchdowns and 5+ rushing touchdowns in their careers.Daniel Wingate Pick-6️⃣! 📺 @BigTenNetwork https://t.co/9tYU9GK9r6

Michael Locksley's Notes:
- "Credit to Ohio State. Really deserving of their ranking. They made the plays they needed to make. You have to execute extremely well against teams like Ohio State, and we didn't make enough winning plays."
- "I thought winning the turnover battle defensively was a positive. We wanted to create turnovers. The goal was two and we did that."
- "We continued the fight in the second half, but ultimately it wasn't good enough."
- "We'll be back home next week against Rutgers. A very winnable game for us at home for homecoming. We've got to work our butts off this week. I look forward to showing up tomorrow, putting this one behind us, and starting our run."
