Maryland Arms Shine In 5-1 Win Over UNC Wilmington

Two key pitching performances earned the Terps a season-opening series win.

WILMINGTON, NC — Maryland earned a series-clinching 5-1 win over UNC Wilmington on the backs of two huge performances on the mound on Saturday night. The Seahawks didn't have any answers for Jake Yeager or Logan Hastings in the series finale as the two held UNCW to just four hits over nine combined innings.

Yeager made his first start of the season on the bump for the Terps. He worked a strong 2026 debut with four innings of one-run, four-hit ball, fanning two across 60 pitches.  Hastings took over in the fifth and recorded five full innings of hitless, shutout ball, collecting four strikeouts across 63 pitches of his own to earn his first win of the new season. Runs were hard to come by in the early parts of Saturday's contest. The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the first and held it until Jackson Sirois countered with an RBI single in the fourth.

An inning later, Ryan Costello — who homered in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader — ripped an RBI single up the middle to give the Terps a 2-1 lead and get to the Seahawks' bullpen and give the Maryland arms a lead to protect. David Mendez brought in an insurance run with a sacrifice-fly in the eighth inning before Rylen Stockton and Antonio Morales put the Terps' win on ice with a pair of RBI singles in the ninth.  The dazzling pitching duo earned Maryland its first series win of the young season. The Terps return to College park for their home opener against Georgetown on Feb. 17.
