Elisea Wiegand Dazzles In 8-0 Run-Rule Win Over Buffalo
2/14/2026 12:30:00 PM | Softball
The freshman’s complete-game shutout got Maryland’s Saturday doubleheader started with a dominant win.
Wiegand dominated the Bulls on Saturday, throwing six innings of shutout ball on three hits while fanning three across 94 pitches. Buffalo had a strong start of its own in the circle, limiting the Terps to just one hit in the first five innings.
A day after her heroic two-run homer in extra innings, Zayda Rocke opened the scoring with a sacrifice-fly in the first inning, giving Wiegand a lead to protect. Sage Rodmyre extended the lead in the second with an RBI single — Maryland's first hit of the afternoon — as the Terps claimed a 2-0 lead.
The Terps' bats came alive in the sixth inning with a six-run, five-hit frame to put the win on ice. Rodmyre, Caitlyn Cornwell, Sammi Woods, and Anna McGowan all picked up RBI knocks as the Terps blew the game open and forced the run-rule into effect. Maryland is back in action against ECU later Saturday as the Purple-Gold Classic rolls on.⬇️1️⃣ Terps get on the board off a sacrifice fly
