No. 25 Terps Shine on Vault and Floor in 196.050-195.900 Showing Against Nebraska

Rayna Engelmayer posted two career-high scores on Friday night.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — No. 25 Maryland posted a 49.350 team score on the floor to rally and defeat Nebraska 196.050-195.900 on Friday night at XFINITY Center. Rayna Engelmayer earned a pair of career-high marks as one of two Terps to post 9.900 marks in their seventh win of the season.

Engelmayer earned a career-high 9.900 as Maryland (7-3, 3-3 Big Ten) got its night started on the vault. Through Engelmayer's elite mark — and twin 9.850 scores from Josephine Kogler and Katrina Mendez-Abolnik — the Terps posted a 49.175 team score, which was good for their second-highest vault score this season.  Madeline Komoroski's 9.800 highlighted a 48.675 team score on the uneven bars. Aine Reade posted a 9.775 in a tightly-judged event that saw both teams score under 48.900. Maryland trailed 98.175-97.850 after two events.  The Terps headed over the balance beam, where they earned a 48.850 mark behind twin 9.800 scores from Engelmayer and Kogler while Megan Bingham and Emily DeFrees posted a pair of 9.775 tallies.  Trailing after three events, Maryland came alive with a stunning 49.350 team score, which is tied for the Terps' second-highest floor score this season — to close out the night. Komoroski's 9.900 — coupled with Engelmayer's career-high 9.875 — helped the Terps rally past the Cornhuskers. No Terp posted lower than a 9.850 in the final, victory-clinching event. The Scoring:

Vault: Team Score: 49.175 (NEB: 49.375)

Uneven Bars: Team Score: 48.675 (NEB: 48.800)

Balance Beam: Team Score: 48.850 (NEB: 48.525)

Floor Exercise: Team Score: 49.350 (NEB: 49.200)

Brett Nelligan's Notes:
  • "In my 23 years of coaching, this is one of the most incredible comebacks I've been a part of. We were down by a lot. We knew we had to do something special, and they bought into each other."
  • "Our anchors came through. They had the most pressure on them, but they would not be intimidated. They would not back down. I'm so proud of them."
  • "This is a really good team. A team that never backs down is a hard one for an opponent to deal with, so I'm really proud of them. They deserved that win tonight."
  • "It goes back to their belief in each other and the belief in the hard work that they've done. They believe that there's no meet that they're not in. We can win from any point in the meet."
  • "I'm coaching one of the toughest teams in the country. I hope we take this momentum into next week.
Up Next:
  • Maryland takes on UCLA, Ohio State, and Iowa in the Big Four meet in Los Angeles on Feb. 27. The meet will start at 10 PM and air on FS1.
