Maryland Falls 5-4 Against No. 21 Virginia

Sammi Woods and Sage Rodmyre both recorded multi-hit days in the Terps’ first game of Friday’s doubleheader.

Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Maryland hung with No. 21 Virginia on Friday morning, but a four-run fifth inning lifted the Cavaliers to a win as the Terps dropped to 5-7 on the season. Sammi Woods and Sage Rodmyre both recorded multi-hit days as Maryland collected seven knocks against ranked Virginia.

Elisea Wiegand got the start in the circle for the Terps and kept a Virginia offense that scored 14 runs a day before to just one across her first four innings of work. Caitlyn Cornwell brought home Bailey Murphy to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning with an RBI fielder's choice to mark her second RBI of 2026.

Maryland took its first lead with some small ball in the fifth. A pair of bunt singles and a walk loaded the bases for Zayda Rocke, who wore a pitch to force a run home. Anna McGowan and Mariah Penta then drew walks as the Terps extended their lead.
