Louisiana Outlasts Maryland 6-5 in 15-Inning Marathon

Ryan Costello homered twice in Maryland’s longest game since 1995.

LAFAYETTE, LA — Louisiana pulled away with a 15-inning, 6-5 win on Sunday in the Terps' longest game since 1995. Ryan Costello homered twice and Logan Hastings was brilliant on the mound, keeping Louisiana at bay until Blaze Rodriguez won it for the Ragin' Cajuns in the 15th inning. Hastings had an unbelievable relief effort out of the bullpen against Louisiana. He collected seven strikeouts across 7.2 innings of work, retired the first 12 hitters he faced, and struck out the side in a scoreless eighth inning.  He entered in the sixth inning and only allowed three runners to reach base across his 107-pitch outing that stretched him into the 13th inning. He started his 2026 season with 10.1 straight hitless innings

Over four hours before the marathon ended, Costello got the scoring started with his second homer of the series. His two-run blast plated Brayden Martin as the Terps opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After Costello's two-homer day, he leads Maryland with 24 total bases in seven games this season. An error in the second inning gave way to a four-run Louisiana second inning that gave the Ragin' Cajuns their first lead of the day. The frame stained Jake Yeager's otherwise spotless outing. He threw five innings and allowed only one earned run on seven hits while fanning three in his second outing of the season.

Maryland tied the game up in the sixth inning as Costello and David Mendez hit back-to-back solo homers. Costello's team-leading fifth blast of the season cut the Louisiana lead in half before Mendez left the yard for the second time in 2026 to knot the game at 4-4. After Louisiana claimed a 5-4 lead, the Terps loaded the bases in both the seventh and eighth innings. Martin drove the tying run home with a sacrifice-fly in the seventh, but the Ragin' Cajuns escaped the jam in the eighth.

Hastings' heroic efforts kept Louisiana off the board while the Terps hunted some offense, but the Ragin' Cajuns walked off Maryland in the 15th inning for their second walkoff win of the weekend.
