CHARLOTTE, NC – The University of Maryland women's tennis team lost its first match of the season against #43-ranked Charlotte, 4-2.
Even with today's loss, this is still the best start to a spring season for the Terps in the past 30 years.
The Terps won the doubles point after a tiebreaker battle between the #22-ranked doubles pairing,
Emma Ghirardato and
Ema Kovacevic, and the #16-ranked duo, Sara Suchankova and Ni Xi, which the Terps took.
In singles, despite great efforts from
Diya Challa,
Emma Ghirardato, and Magdelana Baniak, who all pushed their matches to three sets, the 49ers earned wins from singles courts 3, 4, 5, and 6, giving Charlotte the 4-2 win.
