Terps Breeze Past Fairfield 8-1 in Terrapin Invitational

Maryland slugged four homers while Caitlin Olensky locked things down in the circle.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland posted one of its best games of the season as the Terps fired on all cylinders in their 8-1 win over Fairfield to move to 9-9 on the season. Caitlin Olensky dazzled in the circle while the Terps blasted four homers to stay perfect in the Terrapin Invitational. Olensky was brilliant in the circle in her eighth start of 2026. Aside from a solo homer in the second inning, Fairfield had no answers for her across her season-high seven-inning outing. She limited the Stags to one run on six hits while she collected a season-high eight strikeouts, breezing past her previous mark of four. The Terps got their first two runs of the night on infield singles from Sammi Woods and Zayda Rocke. Matti Benson unloaded on her second solo homer of Saturday's doubleheader in the fourth inning to extend the Terps' lead to 3-1.  Mariah Penta sent a two-run shot of her own out to right-center in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing Sammi Woods and herself around to score, and bringing the Terps' lead to 5-1. One batter later, Rocke left the yard for the fourth time this season, slugging a solo shot and adding an insurance run for Olensky to protect.  Anna McGowan smacked a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth for her team-leading fifth homer of the season. Olensky closed the game out in the seventh for her first complete-game win of the season. How it Happened:
