COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2025-26 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the
Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is junior
Oluchi Okananwa of women's basketball.
Okananwa led Maryland to two dominant road wins with her performance on both ends of the floor. She averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the Terps' wins at No. 12 Michigan State and Nebraska. She also went 13-23 from the field (56.5%), 3-5 from outside the arc (60%) and 8-9 at the foul line.
At Michigan State on Wednesday, she led all scorers with 23 points and 5 assists. The Spartans cut the Terps' double-digit lead to 6 early in the third quarter, and Okananwa responded with a huge and-1 play. Two plays later, she grabbed a key defensive rebound and hit a three to put the Terps back up 13. Michigan State never got within 11 points the rest of the game.
At Nebraska Sunday, Okananwa scored 14 points with 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. As the top of the Terps' press, she nabbed two steals in the first 3 minutes of the game to help set the tone for Maryland. She scored 9 of her points in the first half as the Terps took a 45-28 lead into the break. The Huskers never got within 16 for the rest of the game.
She has led Maryland in scoring in 13 games and is averaging 19.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals in Big Ten play.
