COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland women's basketball team (23-8) earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. The Terps will take on No. 12 seed Murray State in the NCAA first round on Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPNU at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C. in the Fort Worth 1 Region. The winner will take on the winner of No. 4 seed North Carolina and No. 13 Western Illinois on Sunday at Carmichael Arena.

The Terrapins earned their 16th straight NCAA Tournament bid, dating back to 2011. This is the Terrapins' 22
nd NCAA Tournament bid under head coach
Brenda Frese in her 24 seasons in College Park. Under Frese, Maryland is 43-19 (.694) in the NCAA Tournament and 55-31 (.640) in 32 total appearances. The Terrapins have advanced to 12 Sweet Sixteens, seven Elite Eights, three Final Fours and the 2006 NCAA Championship under Frese.
This year, the Terrapins have six Quad 1 wins, which is tied for 10
th in the country. According to the NET rankings, No. 14 Maryland has wins at No. 9 Minnesota, vs. No. 16 Kentucky, at No. 17 Michigan State, at No. 15 Ohio State, at No. 23 USC and at No. 28 Nebraska.
NCAA Regionals will be played in Fort Worth, Texas and Sacramento, Calif. March 27-30. The Final Four is April 3-5 in Phoenix, Ariz.
