Three Terps Tally Multiple Hits In Loss to No. 1 UCLA

Maryland collected nine hits against the top-ranked Bruins’ pitching staff.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Maryland opened its weekend series with No. 1 UCLA to a 12-2 loss in seven innings on Friday night. Three different Terps collected multiple hits, but Maryland fell to 11-10 (1-3 Big Ten) in 2026.

The top-ranked team in the nation jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning in a four-hit frame that included a grand slam from Cashel Dugger. UCLA never trailed as it moved to 19-2, 7-0 in conference play, and 13-2 at home in 2026.

Brayden Martin's team-leading 33rd hit of the season came in the form of an RBI double to get the Terps on the board in the top of the third inning. Paul Jones II and David Mendez each picked up their second hits of the night in the sixth. Ty Kaunas plated Jones II in the sixth to give the Terps their second run of the night. Aden Hill also notched a two-hit game against the Bruins. UCLA ended the game with a six-run, five-hit seventh inning to enact the run rule.

This was the first time Maryland played a team ranked No. 1 since the 2023 NCAA Regionals on June 3, 2013 vs. Wake Forest. The last time Maryland faced a team ranked No. 1 in the regular season was on April 7, 2013 at North Carolina. The last time the Terps beat a team ranked No. 1 was May 8, 2012 at Florida State when the Terps won 8-5.
