Maryland Falls to Indiana in Five Innings

Anna McGowan drove in her team-leading 25th run of the season on Saturday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Indiana downed Maryland 10-2 in the second game of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon. Mariah Penta collected a pair of hits, but the Hoosiers used two big homers to drop the Terps to 13-16 (1-7 Big Ten) in 2026.

A six-run Indiana second inning put the Terps in an early hole. A Hoosiers grand slam capped the two-hit, four-walk frame to put the result out of question early. Indiana added to its lead with a solo homer in the third and a two-RBI triple in the third.

An RBI single from Anna McGowan in the bottom of the seventh got the Terps on the board, and Matti Benson collected a sacrifice-fly, but the Hoosiers moved to 24-6 (6-2 Big Ten) on the season. Maryland will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday at 12 PM.

How it Happened:
  • T1: Elisea Wiegand fanned a batter in a 1-2-3 frame.
  • B1: Penta reached on an infield single for the Terps' first hit of the day.
  • T2: Indiana plated the game's first two runs on a sac-fly and a walk before a grand slam gave the Hoosiers a 6-0 lead.
  • T3: The Hoosiers extended their lead with a solo homer.
  • T4: A two-RBI triple extended Indiana's lead to 9-0.
  • T5: Indiana loaded the bases with nobody out, but Maryland only allowed one in the frame.
