PERFECT 10: No. 3 Terps Move to 10-0 With 13-7 Win Over USC

Maryland continued its best start since 2019 at SECU Stadium on Sunday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The No. 3 Terps dominated USC on Sunday afternoon at SECU Stadium to claim a 13-7 win and continue their best start since 2019. Keeley Block netted four goals while Kori Edmondson and Lauren LaPointe tallied hat tricks as Maryland started 2-0 in Big Ten play for the fifth straight season. Two goals 42 seconds apart from Kayla Gilmore and Lexi Dupcak early in the second quarter gave Maryland its first lead of the afternoon and sparked a six-goal quarter. Block scored her first two goals in the frame as Maryland took a 7-3 lead into the break.  The Terps used a four-goal third quarter — that included a pair of goals from both LaPointe and Block — to put the game away and ensure they remained unbeaten as a program in home Big Ten openers. How it Happened:
1st Quarter:
  • USC opened the scoring less than two minutes in.
  • Edmondson's 25th of the season got the Terps on the board five minutes into the quarter. 
  • JJ Suriano made two saves in the 1-1 opening quarter:
2nd Quarter:
  • Gilmore's sixth of the year opened the scoring in the second quarter.
  • Dupcak scored her 12th of the year to give Maryland a 3-1 lead.
  • USC responded with its second goal of the day. 
  • Edmondson's second of the day extended the lead.
  • Block scored back-to-back goals to give Maryland a 6-2 lead midway through the quarter.
  • The Trojans cut the Terps' lead by one with 4:47 to play.
  • Jordyn Lipkin's eighth of the year gave her Terps an 7-3 advantage at the half.
3rd Quarter:
  • LaPointe's 30th of the season opened the second-half scoring. 
  • Block secured her hat trick early in the quarter.
  • A USC goal snapped a 3-0 Maryland run.
  • Block's fourth got the Terps into double figures.
  • LaPointe's second of the frame gave Maryland an 11-5 lead to take into the fourth.
4th Quarter:
  • USC opened the scoring with the first two goals of the quarter.
  • Edmondsons's third of the day made it 12-7 with over five minutes to play.
  • LaPointe sealed her hat trick late in the quarter.
