
Three Terps Featured On MLB Opening Day Rosters

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- MLB Opening Day is here as three Maryland Terrapins have been named to Opening Day Rosters: Sean Burke, Brandon Lowe and Matt Shaw.
Sean Burke, Chicago White Sox
Sean Burke was named the Chicago White Sox's Opening Day starter last season and was in the rotation for the majority of the season. In 22 starts (28 appearances), Burke pitched to a 4.29 ERA over 134.1 innings while recording 133 strikeouts. In his last appearance of the season, Burke recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in just 4.1 innings pitched at the Washington Nationals.
Brandon Lowe, Pittsburgh Pirates
In his last season with the Tampa Bay Rays, Brandon Lowe had one of the best seasons of his career, being named to his second All-Star team. The second basemen finished the season with a .256/.307/.477 slash line, good for a .785 OPS. Lowe led all second basemen with 31 home runs in 2025. The former Ray drove home 83 runners while recorded 130 hits and scoring 79 runs.
Matt Shaw, Chicago Cubs
In his first season in the major leagues, Matt Shaw got better as the season went on, finishing with 3.1 bWAR. Shaw finished the year with 13 home runs, 17 steals and 21 doubles, showcasing his all-around value. The third baseman caught fire after the All-Star Break, hitting 11 of his 13 home runs in the second half and recorded a .839 OPS. Shaw was named a Rawlings Gold Glove Finalists in the National League at third base and helped the Cubs advance to the NLDS.
