Shortstop Ty Kaunas Named To Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Freshman shortstop Ty Kaunas has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Ty Kaunas has gotten off to a strong start in his collegiate career, posting a .286 batting average, .390 on-base percentage and .429 slugging percentage through his first 11 games. The freshman leads the team with seven doubles and has recorded a hit in nine of his 11 appearances. Kaunas ranks second on the team in both hits (14) and RBI (12), while sitting third in walks (8) and total bases (21). He has also been successful in his lone stolen base attempt.
The Maryland Terrapins (7-4) make their way up to the University of Delaware for a midweek clash against the Fightin' Blue Hens (5-7) on March 4. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday and the game can be listened to on Maryland Baseball Network and watched on ESPN+.
