Maryland got a strong start from its ace in Friday's series opener.
Williams did his job on the mound for the Terps, allowing only three earned runs on five hits across six innings of work. He fanned 10 batters, including striking out the side in two different innings, to become the first Terp with 10+ strikeouts since Jason Savacool against UCF in 2023.
The Trojans pushed the game's first four runs across in the third and fourth innings. Aaron Piasecki hit a three-run homer off Williams in the third and took a 4-0 lead in the fourth. Troy added an insurance run in the eighth to move to 3-1 at home this season. Mendez got the Terps on the board with a two-RBI double with Maryland down to its final out to avoid the shutout.Lance is up to 9 Ks through 4 innings!
