Maryland’s Offense Rolls in 9-3 Series-Evening Win Over Troy

Aden Hill homered and plated two in Maryland’s Saturday victory.

TROY, AL — The Maryland bats and bullpen combined for a strong 9-3 win over Troy to even the weekend series on Saturday evening. Aden Hill and Brayden Martin combined for four hits and four runs — while Ryan Costello picked up a three-hit day — as the Terps (9-5) picked up their first-ever win over the Trojans.

Maryland's offense didn't waste any time getting started on Saturday. David Mendez recorded his second straight multi-RBI game with a two-run shot to left field in the top of the first inning. His third homer of the season gave Maryland its first lead of the series. Hill countered a three-run second inning from the Trojans with his first homer of the season — a solo shot to left field — that tied the game up at 3-3. Hill added an RBI double in the eighth inning to secure his first multi-hit game of the season. Colin Gibbs put Maryland ahead, 4-3, with an RBI single in the fifth inning before Nic Morlang took over on the bump. Morlang struck out the side in the sixth inning as he fanned four of the seven hitters he faced.  Costello provided an insurance run in the seventh inning, plating Ty Kaunas to keep his hot season to the season. Costello's three-hit day brought his team-leading total base tally to 43.

Hill and Martin roped RBI doubles in the eighth inning to secure their muti-hit nights and put the game on ice. Martin's 24 hits this season lead the Terps.

Rylen Stockton left the yard in the ninth with his third homer of the season to ensure Maryland scored in six of nine innings. Sunday's rubber match is set for 12 PM as the Terps look for the series win over the Trojans (6-8).  Logan Hastings threw the final three innings of Saturday's game.
