Maryland Gymnastics Travels to Lexington for Friday’s NCAA Regionals

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland Gymnastics team travels to Lexington, Kentucky, for the 2026 NCAA Regionals, facing No. 8 seed Missouri, No. 9 Arkansas, and NC State in the second round on Friday. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m., and fans can watch the competition on ESPN plus and follow live updates on X at @TerpsGymnastics.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Maryland will face the No. 8 seed Missouri Tigers, the No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks, and the NC State Wolfpack in the second round.
  • The top two teams from each Round 2 meet will advance to the regional final on April 5 at 5 p.m. ET.
  • The second round will also feature No. 1 seed Oklahoma Sooners gymnastics, No. 16 seed Kentucky Wildcats gymnastics, Ohio State Buckeyes gymnastics, and the winner of the Round 1 play-in meet.
  • A total of eight teams, four all-around competitors, and 16 event specialists will advance from regional competition to the national championships.
  • From each regional, the top two teams, the top all-around competitors, and the top event specialists on each event (not on advancing teams) will earn automatic bids to nationals.
  • The GymTerps enter regionals following a 195.300 finish at the Big Ten Gymnastics Championships.
  • Aine Reade led Maryland on floor with a 9.900 score.
  • Maryland has now qualified for eight consecutive NCAA Regionals.
  • Maryland enters the meet with 11 new faces on the roster, including six freshmen and five transfers.
  • The Terrapins are led by head coach Brett Nelligan, who is in his 17th season at the helm of the program.
  • Nelligan signed a contract extension through June 2030, announced in August by Jim Smith, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics.

Looking back at the 2025 NCAA Regional 
  • The Terrapins opened the 2026 season after delivering the best NCAA Regional performance in program history at the NCAA Pennsylvania Regional, scoring 196.825 and placing fourth in Session II last April.
  • Maddie Komoroski captured the NCAA Regional beam title with a 9.950.
  • On floor, the Terps posted a 49.325 team score, the highest floor score in NCAA regional program history.
  • Alexa Rothenbuescher tied the NCAA Regional program record with a 9.900, matching Jill Fisher.
  • Maryland's top five floor scores in the meet were all above 9.850.
  • The Terps set a new NCAA regional program best on vault with a 49.225 team score.
  • On bars, Maryland recorded a 49.200, good for the second-best NCAA Regional team score in program history.
  • Sarah Saville posted a career-high 9.900 on bars, setting a new NCAA Regional program record.
  • Taylor Rech earned a 9.900 on vault, tying for the third-best mark in an NCAA Regional.

the newcomers Impact
  • The Terps have welcomed five transfers this past offseason, bringing a new level of experience and talent to College Park.
  • Megan Bingham is a Second-Team All-Conference All-Around gymnast who achieved a career-high score of 9.950 on beam. She joins the Terps from Bowling Green State University and is now a senior, recording her highest score on beam this season in the lead-off spot, 9.850. Bingham has also surpassed 1,000 career points. 
  • Aine Reade earned First-Team All-Conference honors and was an eight-time Conference Rookie of the Week. She recorded a career-high 9.900 on floor and comes to Maryland from the University of New Hampshire as a sophomore. Reade marked a new career-high 9.975 on floor against Penn State this season. Reade is currently ranked No.10 in the Big Ten on floor. 
  • Chelsey Dennis is a First-Team All-Conference gymnast and two-time Conference Rookie Specialist of the Week. She posted a career-high 9.900 on balance beam while competing at Towson University and is now a junior. Dennis most recently posted a 9.825 season-high on bars against Penn State.
  • Katrina Mendez-Abolnik achieved a career-high score of 9.900 on vault, appeared in 10 of 12 meets in 2025 all on vault, and joins the Terps from Bowling Green State University as a graduate student. Mendez-Abolnik has been a force on vault in the anchor spot, posting a season-high of 9.850. 
  • Alexis Czarrunchick transferred from the University of Georgia and is now a sophomore. She was the state all-around runner-up in 2023 and previously trained at MG Elite.
