Eight-Run Eighth Lifts Terps To 15-7 Win Over Towson For Fifth Victory In Six Games

David Mendez’s three-run homer powered the Terps out of a 6-1 hole on Tuesday night.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Tied at seven in the eighth inning, Maryland's leader in hits — Brayden Martin — delivered the go-ahead single to spark an eight-run inning and lift his Terps to a 15-7 win over Towson on Tuesday night at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. Maryland (18-19, 4-11 Big Ten) trailed 6-1 early, but rallied to claim its fifth win in its last six games.  After Towson pushed six runs across during the first three innings, David Mendez took a chunk out of the Terps' deficit with a three-run blast. His sixth homer of the season marked his second straight game with a round-tripper and sparked a run of six straight runs scored by Maryland.  An inning later, Ty Kaunas left the yard for the third time in his freshman season to tie the game at 6-6. Two of Maryland's first four hits cleared the fences as Maryland created a brand new ballgame in the fourth.   The Terps' bullpen was elite on Tuesday. Andrew Koshy threw three scoreless innings before Jake Yeager and Ryan Bailey combined for four innings of one-run ball. Maryland dropped Towson to 15-19 (4-14 CAA) in 2026.  After Martin's go-ahead hit, the game got away from Towson as the Tigers walked eight Terps in the eighth inning as Maryland's lead ballooned to the 15-7 final tally.  Maryland had plenty of support from fellow student-athletes at Tuesday's contest as members of Maryland's football, field hockey, softball, gymnastics, women's soccer, and cheer teams were on hand at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium for the midweek clash.
