Women’s Tennis Stays Makes History in 7-Point Thriller Win Over Northwestern, 4-3

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 45 University of Maryland women's tennis team defeated No. 57 Northwestern, 4-3, to set a school record for Big Ten wins in a season with eight.
In doubles, the Wildcats earned the point after winning two of the three doubles matches 6-3 and 6-3.
In singles, the Terps crawled back, gaining wins from Magdalena Baniak, Emma Ghirardato, and Tamari Gagoshidze, who was down 5-2 in the second set yet fought hard to win 7-6, 7-4 in a tiebreak.
It all came down to Diya Challa's third match. After 3 hours and 40 minutes of tennis, Diya Challa won her match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to give the Terps a sudden-death victory!
The Terps are now 16-5 overall and 8-4 in Big Ten matches. The Terps have broken the school record for the most Big Ten wins in a single season with eight.
