Seven-Goal Second Quarter Lifts No. 3 Terps To 13-9 Win Over Ohio State

Jordyn Lipkin had a career-high eight-point day against the Buckeyes as Maryland closed out the regular season.

COLUMBUS, OH — The No. 3 Terps got back on track with a dominant 13-9 road win over Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. Maryland scored seven goals in the second quarter as the Terps closed out the regular season and moved to 14-2 (6-2 Big Ten) in 2026. Jordyn Lipkin logged a career-high eight points with three goals and five assists in the victory.  Lauren LaPointe scored twice in both the second and third quarters during her eighth four-goal game of the season. The Terps' leading scorer on the season raised her season total to 54 as Maryland won its 12th straight game against the Buckeyes.  After getting outscored 3-1 in the first quarter, Maryland rattled off a seven-goal second frame to take a commanding 8-4 lead into the half. LaPointe scored twice in the frame while Lipkin collected five points on two goals and a trio of assists. 

Keeley Block scored her second goal of her hat trick in the quarter as Lexi Dupcak and Kristen Shanahan helped flip the script right before halftime. Maryland's seven-goal second quarter matched its highest total in a single frame this season. The Terps scored eight goals on only nine shots on goal in the first half.  Maryland wrapped up its regular season with a dominant win as the Terps built momentum to take into the postseason. The Big Ten Tournament starts next week, but Maryland's seeding, opponent, and game time are yet to be determined. 

How It Happened:
1st Quarter:
  • Ohio State opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game.
  • Block's 28th goal of the season got the Terps on the board.
  • JJ Suriano made four saves in the quarter.
  • The Buckeyes scored a pair of late goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second frame.
2nd Quarter:
  • Lipkin opened the scoring with her 15th goal of the season.
  • LaPointe's 51st goal of 2026 tied the game with 9:38 to play in the half. 
  • LaPointe's 52nd goal gave Maryland its first lead of the game midway through the quarter.
  • Dupcak's 14th goal of the season kept the Terps' scoring run rolling.
  • Block's second of the day gave Maryland a 6-3 lead.
  • Ohio State scored with 2:39 to play in the half. 
  • Lipkin scored her second goal of the quarter to give Maryland a 7-4 advantage. 
  • Shanahan's 34th goal of the season gave the Terps an 8-4 halftime lead.
3rd Quarter:
  • LaPointe opened the quarter by securing her hat trick.
  • LaPointe scored her fourth goal of the day to extend the Terps' lead midway through the quarter.
  • Ohio State scored its fifth goal with 5:20 to go in the quarter.
  • Maryland took a 10-5 lead into the final 15 minutes of action. 
4th Quarter:
  • Lipkin's third goal of the day gave seven points on the day.
  • The Buckeyes responded with a quick goal.
  • Devin Livingston's third goal of the season gave Maryland a 12-6 lead with 12 minutes to play. 
  • Ohio State scored three straight goals to work itself back within three.
  • Block's hat trick gave the Terps a 13-9 lead with five minutes to play.
Multi-Point Terps:
  • LaPointe (four goals) recorded her 26th multi-point game and her 24th with multiple goals. 
  • Lipkin (three goals, five assists) logged her 38th-career multi-point game, her 29th with multiple goals, and her eighth with multiple assists. She had a career-high five assists in the win.
  • Block (three goals, one assist) played in her 48th-career game with multiple points and her 37th-career multi-goal game.
  • Shanahan (one goal, three assists) tallied multiple points for the 36th time in her career and dished multiple assists for the 13th time.
Beating The Buckeyes:
  • Saturday marked the 23rd all-time meeting between Maryland and Ohio State.
  • The Terps moved to 21-3 all-time against the Buckeyes.
  • Maryland is 16-1 against Ohio State under Cathy Reese.
  • The Terps extended their winning streak over the Buckeyes to 12 games.
Building On History:
  • Maryland is college lacrosse's all-time winningest program, and improved to 817-170-3 on Sunday. 
  • Reese is the fifth all-time winningest active head coach, and grabbed her 390th career win on Sunday.
