Terps Return To Maryland For Midweek Matchup At Mount St. Mary’s

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland Terrapins (19-21) are set to make the Tuesday day trip up to Frederick County for an instate matchup at the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers (17-19). This will be the 20th time these teams have faced off with the Terps leading the series 16-3. First pitch is set for 3 pm and will be streamed on ESPN+. The game can be listened to on Maryland Baseball Network.

  • Sunday's 16-5 run rule victory marks the fifth for the Terps since March 31.

  • Ryan Costello returned to the field on Sunday and picked up right where he left off with two hits and one for extra bases. He leads the team with 21 XBH this season and 82 total bases. He also leads the team in both OPS (1.031) and slugging percentage (.631).
  • On Saturday, freshman Bud Coombs hit his third home run of the season in just his 14th game. His 12 hits through 31 at bats puts him at an impressive .387 batting average. 
  • Nate Hawton-Henley, who has been getting the start in center field recently, has been showing his impact. He has 11 hits this month, two being home runs to put him at five XBH. His first collegiate home run came from a grand slam against Navy on April 8.

  • Brayden Martin has been awesome in 2026 with a .358 batting average, .485 on-base percentage, 41 runs scored, and 57 hits through 40 games in 2026.
  • Martin leads the Big Ten in walks with 38 and his .485 OBP ranks sixth in the Big Ten.
  • The junior is currently riding a 70-game on-base streak dating back to 3/28/25 vs. Northwestern and set a new program record with a 40-game on-base streak to open the 2026 season.
  • One area where Martin has leveled up his game is on the basepaths. Martin is 16/17 on steals this season after recording six in both 2024 and 2025. The 16 steals leads the Big Ten.

  • Freshman Ty Kaunas has exploded this month. His home run against Iowa on Saturday was his second of the week and fourth since March 28. 
  • On April 11, he went 4/4 at the plate to become the first freshman to have a four-hit game for Maryland since the 2024 season. He is now tied for second most hits on the team with 47.
  • Kaunas recorded a double and his first triple over the weekend. He moves a team leading 13 doubles this season. He also leads Big Ten freshmen in doubles.

  • David Mendez is on a 14-game hit streak that dates back to March 27. He is tied with his middle infield partner, Ty Kaunas, for second most hits on the team with 47. 
  • Since the beginning of his hit streak, he has been batting .406 for 22 hits and a 1.111 OPS to put him at a .500 OBP.
  • Mendez has six XBH in the past six games: two home runs, three doubles and one triple. He has 14 XBH this season and is tied for second most total bases on the team with 74 this season.
  • His 23 double plays and 107 assists this season both lead the team, showing his impact goes beyond his offensive contributions.
