Ferreira, Dooley and Epps Named WCGA Southeast Regional Assistant Coaches of the Year

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The assistant coaches of Maryland Gymnastics, JJ Ferreira, Erinn Dooley, and Morgan Epps, have been named the Southeast Regional Assistant Coaches of the Year by WCGA. In support of head coach Brett Nelligan, the trio helped the Terps advance to their eighth consecutive NCAA Regional.

"This honor is well deserved," Nelligan said. "Erinn, JJ, and Morgan work tirelessly every day to help our student-athletes become the best versions of themselves in the gym, in the classroom, and as they go on to become global leaders. I'm thankful every day that I get to work with such dedicated, passionate, and talented coaches."

On vault and floor, Ferreira and Epps guided the GymTerps to strong national and regional finishes. Maryland ranked No. 26 nationally and No. 6 in the Southeast Region on vault, holding a Top-25 spot all 10 weeks of the regular season. On the floor, Maryland finished No. 27 nationally and No. 6 regionally, spending five weeks in the Top 25, including four consecutive weeks.
The GymTerps set a program record 49.575 on floor in January, the highest event score in program history. Maddie Komoroski and Aine Reade each scored 9.975, tying for the second-highest mark in program history.

On beam, Dooley led a steady lineup to a No. 28 national and No. 6 regional finish, with two Top-25 appearances. Komoroski ranked No. 10 in the region (9.875 NQS), followed by Kogler at No. 18 (9.855). Freshman Emily Defrees added depth with a career-high 9.900 and seven scores of 9.850 plus.

This is the second time Maryland's coaching staff received this honor, previously named the WCGA Southeast Regional Assistant Coaches of the Year in 2024.

The Terps' 2025-2026 season came to a close last week with a 195.775 finish in the NCAA Regional in Lexington, KY.
