Clemsen Announces 13 Newcomers To Wrestling Roster

Head coach Alex Clemsen added five transfers and a nationally ranked freshman class to bolster his roster.
Maryland's incoming freshmen class is ranked No. 25 by Intermat - which marks the program's second ranked class since 2021 - and received an honorable mention from MatScouts. The class consists of eight young wrestlers from across the country, each bringing various accolades and accomplishments with them to College Park.
Joining the freshmen will be five transfers, including three with Big Ten experience.
"The incoming group is both talented and competitive," Clemsen said. "I want to give the staff a big shoutout on all the work they put in to secure this class of freshmen and portal pieces. They found kids that fit our system, our culture, and our future. I can't wait for our fans to get a look at the new lineup this November!"
Ivan Arias
Clovis, California
Buchanan High School
Before Maryland: Ivan Arias comes to College Park after a successful high school wrestling career that included a 3rd Place finish in the California State Championships. A former Super 32 placer, Arias boasts an 87-18 overall high school record, is ranked No. 12 at 150 by FloWrestling and No. 79 in the Class of 2026.
Caio Aron
Willis, Texas
College Park High School
Previous School: Cal Baptist
Before Maryland: Caio Aron transfers to Maryland after a season with Cal Baptist that didn't feature any collegiate action. A two-time Texas state champion and three-time state finalist, three-time district champion, and three-time regional champion, Aron earned a 149-4 high school record while maintaining a 4.26 GPA. He also earned a bronze medal competing for Brazil at the 2024 U20 Pan-American Championships.
Jackson butler
Windber, Pennsylvania
Bishop McCort High School
Before Maryland: Jackson Butler committed to Maryland in January 2026 before finishing his high school career with a 102-33 record. He's ranked No. 13 in Pennsylvania and No. 4 in his district by FloWrestling. He earned first place in both his district and regional in his sophomore season on his way to a third-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Championships, and he claimed second and third in his district and regional, respectively, en route to an eighth-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Championships in his senior year.
Devin Downes
Plainedge, New York
Plainedge High School
Before Maryland: The top-ranked wrestler from the state of New York at 215 pounds, Devin Downes brings three New York state championships with him to College Park. The No. 28 national recruit at 215 went 46-8 in his senior season and has been both a NHSCA finalist and a Best of the East placer.
Julian george
Manasquan, New Jersey

Previous School: Wisconsin
Before Maryland: Julian George gained Big Ten experience across several years at the University of Wisconsin. In high school, he compiled a 123–18 career record and was a three-time New Jersey state placewinner and regional champion. He won the 2023 Shore Conference title at 144 pounds and was a 2022 New Jersey state finalist. George earned All-American honors at the 2022 Super 32 (8th place) and finished runner-up at the 2022 Journeyman Classic. He placed third at the Beast of the East tournament in both 2021 and 2022 and won a Super Region title in 2021.
Jojo gigliotti
Frederick, Maryland
South Carroll High School
Before Maryland: A local recruit for Clemsen's class, Jojo Gigliotti earned four Maryland state championships during his high school career. He's a four-time Carroll County, regional, and state champion, as well as an NHSCA All-American. Gigliotti went 332-109 in his outstanding high school career and is the No. 23 recruit at 138 pounds by Sports Illustrated.
Landon Hamper

South Carroll High School
Before Maryland: Landon Hamper is a hometown talent and the No. 1 recruit at 215 from the state of Maryland by FloWrestling. He collected 103 wins in his high school career, and went 31-5 in his senior season. He's a two-time state champion, a two-time Carrol County champion, and a regional champion.
Nicolar Rivera
Stoughton, Wisconsin
Stoughton High School
Previous School: Wisconsin
Before Maryland: Nicolar Rivera joins Maryland after four seasons competing for the University of Wisconsin. He's a two-time NCAA qualifier, and collected Big Ten victories in all four of his seasons. He's placed in the top 10 of the Big Ten Championships twice, won the Michigan State Open, and earned Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA Scholar All-American honors in 2025. In his redshirt freshman season, he won the freshman/sophomore division at the Michigan State Open and he went 8-7 overall as a true freshman in 2022-23. In high school, Rivaera was a three-time undefeated Wisconsin state champion.
Latrell Schafer
Bonaire, Georgia
Veterans High School
Previous School: NC State
Before Maryland: Latrell Schafer transferred to Maryland after his redshirt freshman season at NC State in 2025–26, where he competed primarily at 157 pounds before moving up to 174 late in the season. He finished with a 9-7 overall record, placed second at the Southeast Open (freshman/sophomore division), and fifth at the Patriot Last Chance Open. During his true freshman season, he Schafer the Wildcat Open at 157 pounds and earned ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition. He was a 2024 Georgia state champion in high school and was ranked No. 30 overall by MatScouts and No. 92 by FloWrestling.
Liston Seibert

Massillon Perry High School
Before Maryland: Liston Seibert is set to start his collegiate career after establishing himself as a top recruit. The two-time Ohio state qualifier claimed third place in the state in 2024 en route to becoming a 2024 Fargo national finalist. FloWrestling has him ranked at No. 15 at 132 pounds, and Seibert is a two-time All-American. He went 78-21 during his high school career.
Carson thomas
Ross, Ohio
La Salle High School
Previous School: Indiana
Before Maryland: Carson Thomas redshirted his freshman year at Indiana after being a standout at La Salle High School, where he eclipsed 100 wins in just three years of competition. He placed second at the Greyhound Open and fourth at the Purple Raider Open and is a 2024 Ohio State Champion and 2023 Ohio State runner-up. He earned third place at Fargo in 2024 and took fourth in 2023. Thomas is a 2024 Super 32 Champion, took third place at the 2024 Escape the Rock tournament, and was considered the No. 4 wrestler at 197 pounds by MatScouts in the class of 2025 (No. 35 overall).
Mateo Vinciguerra
Pilesgrove Township, New Jersey
Woodstown High School
Before Maryland: Mateo Vinciguerra joins the Terps after a flourishing high school career. He went 43-2 across his two years of competition, claimed second place in the New Jersey State Championships as a senior, and third place as a junior. The former Super 32 placer, Best of the East placer, and NHSCA All-American is ranked No. 15 at 285 by FloWrestling.
Bradley Williams
Hoover, Alabama
Spain Park High School
Before Maryland: Bradley Williams brings three Alabama state championships with him to College Park. The No. 1 recruit at 157 pounds in his district, state, and Class AHSAA 6A, Williams went undefeated across his final three years of high school, won 167 matches in a row, and finished with a career record of 296-15. He's a six-time Alabama State finalist and went 61-0 in his senior season.
