The Terps hung with one of the nation’s top teams on Sunday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland women's soccer battled the No. 12 Bruins on Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field. A scoreless bout turned UCLA's win after the Terps (3-7-1, 0-5 Big Ten) were assessed a late red card, helping the Bruins secure a 2-0 victory.

A defensive first half featured few scoring opportunities for either team. The match remained scoreless and evenly-fought until Maryland was sent a woman down in the 70th minute. The Bruins' Oruha Hayashi then scored a pair of goals to help UCLA improve to 7-3-1 (4-1 Big Ten) in 2026. Faith Luckey made six saves in goal for the Terps on Sunday. Maryland is back in action on the road against Minnesota on Oct. 2.

Maryland fought off an early UCLA corner in the fourth minute.
The Bruins recorded the match's first shot in the 17th minute.
Luckey made her first save in the 18th minute.
Dani Gichner logged Maryland's first shot in the 21st minute.

2nd Half:

The Terps were given another yellow card early in the half.
Jolie Farmer put a shot on target, forcing a save in the 70th minute.
Foye was sent off with a red card in the 70th minute.
UCLA took the lead with a Hayashi's first goal in the 75th minute.
Luckey made two more saves in a five-minute span.
Ellie Egeland put a shot on goal in the 85th minute.
UCLA extended its lead with another Hayashi goal in the 87th minute.
The Bruins closed out their 1-0 win.
