As a freshman (2004): Played in six of 16 games, backing up All-American Tim McGinnis ... three saves in season opening 14-5 win at No. 6 Georgetown (2/28) ... four saves in 10:01 of action in 14-7 win over Bucknell (3/17) ... two saves, playing the third quarter, in 19-4 rout of Butler (2/23) ... played the final 5:54, with no saves, in 9-6 loss to No. 4 Navy (4/10) ... played the final 2:57 of 13-5 win over No. 13 Penn (5/8) in regular-season finale ... made two saves and allowed two goals in final 2:46 of 16-12 win over No. 14 Army in NCAA First Round.
Summer of 2003: Starting goalie for United States U-19 Team which captured the ILF World Championship at Towson ... played in all six games, starting four, posted a 6.71 goals against average and a 60.0 save percentage ... made 10 saves in championship victory over Canada ... also made tournament-high 11 saves in semifinal win over England.
Before Maryland: High School All-American at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. ... four-year starting varsity goalie under coach Malcolm Lester ... team captain as a senior ... two-time Washington Post all-Metro selection and two-time all-conference pick in the IAC ... had a 5.50 goals against average as a senior in leading his team to a 13-5 finish ... scored three goals in his high school career, two left-handed, one right-handed ... also starred in football, starting three years at linebacker.
Personal: Son of Kay DeBow Alford and Harry Alford Jr. ... identical twin brother Thomas is also a junior on the Terps squad ... nicknamed Roldy (Raw-Dee) ... father, who is the President of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, was a football player at Wisconsin ... chose Maryland over Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and Loyola because "it was my dream school since I picked up a stick" ... majoring in family studies and African-American studies with a concentration in cultural and social analysis.
