Terps Hit the Road For Stretch Run
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland men's tennis team (4-9, 0-6 ACC), losers of their last six matches will hit the road for the final two matches of the regular season. The men will face off against N.C. State on Saturday before ending the regular season in Charlottesville, Va. against Virginia on April 10. The Terps have struggled as of late, dropping matches to Clemson and Georgia Tech over the weekend. Maryland is still in search of their first ACC win of the season, something the team could not accomplish a year ago, and will look to capture the elusive victory Saturday against N.C. State at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex.
Scouting the Wolfpack
The N.C. State Wolfpack currently sit seventh in the ACC standings with a 5-15 record overall and 0-4 in conference. Head Coach Eric Hayes and the Wolfpack are coming off an 11-16 record overall with their only win in the ACC coming against the Terps 4-0, placing them seventh in the ACC standings a year ago. Senior Eric Jackson, an All-ACC honoree last season with a 14-7 record, steps up as the top man for N.C. State which lost four seniors to graduation. The Wolfpack most recently lost to Duke on Wednesday 7-0. All-time, the Wolfpack hold a 15-12 record against the Terps. The two teams will battle for a coveted first victory in the conference.
Men Struggle Against Clemson, Georgia Tech
The Maryland Terrapins continued their slide this, falling to Clemson and Georgia Tech 7-0 over the weekend. The men could not muster any singles or doubles victories in either match. Sophomore Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) dropped two matches over the weekend falling to 6-6 on the season. Junior Jonathan Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.) ran into trouble after taking the first set from Georgia Tech's Joao Menano, falling at the No. 4 position 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. In doubles competition, Senior Dan Kenshalo (Gaithersbug, Md.) and Chiu lost tow matches against Clemson and Georgia Tech, dropping their record together to 5-3 on the season after starting an impressive 4-0. The men are still looking fro their first point in ACC competition and after falling to win a match against the Tigers and Yellow Jackets. The loss to Georgia Tech brings the Terps all-time record against the Yellow Jackets to 6-15. Both matches were the last home matches of the season for Maryland as they hit the road for the stretch run culminating in Orlando, Fla. at the ACC Championships.
