Maryland Women's Basketball Postgame Notes

No. 21/21 Maryland 92, No. 5/4 North Carolina 77

  • Maryland breaks a seven-game losing streak to North Carolina and improves to 27-31 overall and 15-11 at home in the schools' all-time series.

  • It was the first time since December 30, 1992 (77-72 over Tennessee) that Maryland has beaten a top-five team.

  • Shay Doron scored a career-high and Comcast Center record 37 points, just missing the Maryland school record of 39 points held by Dafne Lee and Kris Kirchner ... it was Doron's second career 30-point game, with her first coming exactly one year ago tonight (32 vs. Wake Forest, 1/9/04).

  • Doron knocked down 20 straight free throws after missing her first two attempts (20-22) and connected on 8-of-15 field goal attempts ... Both her 20 free throws and 22 attempts were the most ever against North Carolina.

  • Doron also tied a season-high with seven rebounds.

  • Crystal Langhorne was 11-of-13 from the field, netting 23 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season ... Langhorne has had at least 20 point in four straight games.

  • This was the most points scored against North Carolina since a 97-63 loss to Duke on Feb. 20, 2003.

  • For the second time in three games, point guard Anesia Smith posted double-digit assists; the senior previously had never more than nine assists in a game.

  • Maryland knocked down a season-high 30 free throws and tied a season-high with 38 free throw attempts.

  • Maryland held an advantage in rebounding for the 10th straight game, out-rebounding North Carolina 49-35 tonight.

  • The 15-point margin of victory was the largest over North Carolina since Jan. 18, 1998.
