Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening statement:
"I thought we jumped off to a great start in terms of our intensity and how unselfish we were in terms of moving the ball inside and outside. I was obviously not satisfied with the second half. We have to continue to improve on in terms of our focus, our intensity, and playing a 40-minute game. I give credit to Arizona. I thought their defense picked up in the second half. I thought they got a lot more active in the passing lanes and we didn't handle it well. It keeps us motivated and continues to keep our focus and our intensity for 40 minutes."

On the well-roundedness of the team:
"Like you saw in the first half, when we are moving the ball so unselfishly and making that extra pass, we were just really clicking. We are really hard to guard when we can play like that. We are versatile as far as positions that players can play so it just helps us for down the road."

On the team's play:
"I thought we had great intensity in talking and getting through the screens, really making them have to work. Our focus is that we want to play an entire game like that. The thing is we are four games into the season so it gives us a great challenge. I think as we get our self into great shape we will be able to continue to build on those things."

Maryland Forward Laura Harper

On tomorrow's game:
"It's a huge game. We are not satisfied with the way we are playing for two games so I think tomorrow is really big in proving something for us. We are playing three games in three days so we are trying to fight through."

On the feeling after two straight games:
"I feel that same as I do when we practice. We practice hard so we can play hard and we are trying to get that on the court."

Maryland Center Crystal Langhorne

On tonight's play:
"We are just not taking care of the ball. Like the coaches said, while on the bench we need to pay attention to what is going on and I don't think we are doing that. That is what the coaches are stressing for us to do from now on."

Maryland Guard Ashleigh Newman

On tonight's game:
"I had a bad shooting day yesterday, so I focused on today and got my feet set on all my shots."

Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini
On the game:
"Maryland is a great basketball team. We put ourselves in a hole early, I don't know if we were nervous or what, but they took advantage of every opportunity. We were finally able to settle down and then we played a whole lot better, but they are a basketball team with a whole lot of weapons."

On Maryland:
"They have the talent, but it's not just that, they have an air of confidence about them. It's not cockiness. They play with a great deal of confidence in each other, and that's the mark of a great team."

On Maryland's weapons down low:
"They are great talents, we played hesitant and we shot too quickly. They dominate the boards and if you shoot too quickly it makes it tough."

On the importance of Sunday's game against TCU:
"Tomorrow's a huge game. We need to get back and win here. We have a young team, but we have a lot of talent and I think they are finally beginning to understand how to play together and play to our ability. When we do that we are pretty darn good."

Guard Joy Hollingsworth
On Maryland:
"They have a lot of talent on the team, they have a great coach, and they play hard, so they are definitely a number one team."

On their second half play:
"Coach B always tells us to keep fighting through the entire game, whether you are down by 30 or you're up by five, you play hard the whole game. That's just something that she instilled in us."
