Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese

On tonight's game:
"Offensively, I like where we are. I thought we were extremely unselfish, almost to a fault in this game. Defensively, I think we need to improve to get ourselves ready for ACC. I give a lot of credit to UNC Greensboro because I thought they came out and they competed for 40 minutes and they didn't look at the score. I thought our starts both halves were really slow, and we need to sustain our intensity for 40 minutes."

On team's defensive intensity:
"Our defensive intensity picked up and defense translates into our offense. We're a lot more aggressive. When we're able to bring more intensity and get after it at the defensive end, we're able to push the tempo on the offensive end. We're very unselfish and we got great looks on the perimeter and we really spread the offense. We moved the ball to get a lot of great shots."

On the team's efficiency and 3-point shooting:
"I'm pleased with our efficiency. The shots we're taking are good shots. We broke the record tonight for 3-point shooting with twelve 3-pointers in the game. I'm very pleased with where we are. We need to look at our turnovers and defensive intensity to complete our game."

On Sa'de Wiley Gatewood:
"Sa'de [Wiley-Gatewood] is bringing a lot to our team. Her game is special because she does what the team needs her to do. She is very loyal and is looking to get everyone involved. She was taking the shots that were open and she does a tremendous job defensively. She blends well with this team because she will do whatever it takes to make us win.

Sophomore Guard Kristi Toliver

On her game tonight:
"Every time I get on the floor, I try to give my best effort and try to help the team as much as possible, whether that is scoring or assisting. The guards had to step up on the perimeter and I think all of us did a great job."

On her shooting confidence:
"I've always been confident in my shooting. That's something that I've been doing since I was young. I think I'm a confident person; I have confidence in myself and my teammates. They were just knocking down great shots."

UNC-Greensboro Head Coach Lynne Agee

On her team's effort:
"I'm real proud of the effort we put in. The game for us was about composure and ball control. It was about handling the ball and using our possessions and hopefully seeing some positive results at the end of those possessions. The first half we didn't do a good job of that, but the second half I think we stepped up. I was pleased overall; I think we worked about as hard as we could."

On Maryland:
"We were caught between a rock and a hard place, Maryland is a team where there isn't just one person to defend. There is no weak spot clearly. We can't match up with them, so we showed a little man to man, and we had to go back to the paint and fight hard for some rebounds."

On the game:
"We have a real seasoned team and we are looking forward to a very exciting season. We have a brutal schedule. We went to [North] Carolina and we didn't play very well at all. Coming into this game, it was hard to think about winning this game. Playing the number one team in the country, our goals were a little different for this game. This game was about ball control and composure. From beginning to end of this game and from our best player to the last player on the bench, I thought this was a better contest for us. This was a very pleasing effort."
