#2/2 North Carolina 84, #3/3 Maryland 71
January 28, 2007
Comcast Center
The loss for Maryland is their first at home since losing to #2/2 Duke 86-68 on January 8, 2006.
The Terrapins fell behind in the first half due to .294 percent shooting. The 27 points they scored is the fewest they have put up in the first half all season, and tied for the fewest points they have scored in any half all season. They put up just 27 in the second half against Arizona on November 18.
The Terps poured it on in the second half, though, scoring 44 points. That is the most points North Carolina has given up in any half all season.
Maryland's 50 rebounds are the most that a North Carolina opponent has pulled down all season.
Crystal Langhorne scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. It was the 40th double-double of her career and the seventh this season.
Langhorne's 14 points moves her into sixth place on the Maryland all-time scoring list. She now has 1,547 points, moving past Deanna Tate (1,541 from 1986-89). Next up is Jessie Hicks, who registered 1,601 points from 1990-93.
Langhorne has now scored in double figures in 46 of the last 47 games. She benefited from a season high 6 free throws made.
Shay Doron scored 19 points, the most that she has scored since a season high 23 against Mississippi on November 25.
Doron, who remains in second place on the Maryland all-time scoring list, eclipsed the 1,750 point plateau during the game. She now has 1,760 on her career.
Laura Harper pulled down 10 rebounds, the third time this season that she had double digit boards.
Harper, whose 4 blocked shots was just one shy of a career high, now has 42 on the season. She jumped from 12th to 10th on the Maryland single-season blocks list.
