Head Coach Brenda Frese
On today's game:
"That was a tremendous game with an amazing atmosphere. Obviously, we're disappointed to come out on this end. I think our team showed a lot of heart and it took a lot of courage when we got down by twenty, against one of the best teams in the country, to be able to come back. I'm pleased with the fact that we never gave up."
On the play of the seniors:
"I think the story of this game was the seniors, especially Shay Doron and the leadership she showed tonight in stepping up for our team. Obviously the leadership of Camille Little and Ivory Latta was punishing against our team in terms of what they were able to do against us."
On improving their game:
"We have played on the biggest stage in the world and we need to find a way to get our swagger back. Sometimes this team wants to perform and play so well that they put unnecessary pressure on themselves. We need to get back to being relaxed and having fun, instead of getting down upon ourselves."
Senior Guard Shay Doron:
On today's game:
"I was trying to keep everyone's heads up in order to stay in the game. I was doing anything I could to do to keep our energy up. I think Ashleigh Newman did a tremendous job coming off the bench and she was unbelievable on defense."
Junior Forward Laura Harper:
On today's game:
"I think the revenge factor is so huge playing against Duke and North Carolina. They came ready to play and they were focused. In order to beat teams like these, we have to come even more prepared."
North Carolina Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell
Opening statement:
"It was a hard-fought game, a great environment. This was a great environment for women's basketball. My hat's off to Maryland for the fantastic job they did. This game was tough. It was great for television and great for women's basketball. We're just proud to be a part of it."
On Maryland's second half run:
"I told my team that it was going to be a game of runs and we knew that Maryland is a great offensive team. Their guards started scoring when they had been trying to get the ball inside. Their guards got loose and started popping shots. They're just a great offensive team. They've just got so many weapons out there."
On their coverage of Crystal Langhorne:
"We were just trying to get help on her. She's such a great player. She only had 14 points and that's low for her. She still had a double-double. We were just mainly trying to give help on her and Harper too.
On answering Shay Doron's late shots:
"She just kept putting them up and making shots. But that's Maryland; they just have so many shooters. If it's not Doron, it is Kristi Toliver and Coleman can do that too. "
North Carolina Guard Ivory Latta
On any personal hard feelings towards Maryland after the Final Four loss last year:
"We just tried to play our game and stay focused. We let down in the second half when they made that run, but no, nothing personal at all."
On her tough shots down the stretch:
"I just kept driving. Coach kept telling me to drive and penetrate and that's what I did. I was just there when we needed a big bucket. Erlana Larkins did a great job. Whenever we needed a quick score, she was there."
North Carolina Forward Erlana Larkins
On her play
"I just knew that Coach was going to try to get the ball inside. I just tried to do what I could to help my team score."
