Maryland Head Coach Ralph Friedgen:

Opening statement:
"I think we played as well as we have been playing. Obviously when you get in here in front of a crowd, it always makes a difference and you get to learn a little bit more about your players. I always enjoy the spring game, and I thought we had a good crowd today. I want the kids to play hard, but I think that we played harder in Thursday's practice than we did today. I still think we had a productive spring and I'm looking forward to getting better this summer and coming back in the fall ready to go."

On offense:
"I think that Jordan did very well, the only problem being his interceptions. He threw three today, which he needs to cut down on. I think we need to play better at quarterback, but overall our first team offense played very well."

On running back Morgan Green:
"Up to the point of his injury, I thought he did a great job. Morgan has played great spring ball all along and I thought he played very hard today. In fact, the play he got hurt on, I thought that he ran that play very well and he went ahead and finished the run off."

On the special teams:
"I thought we punted the ball better and I was pleased with our return game. However, I do think we need to work on blocking for kick-off returns, and I wish we had made a couple of long field goals, that has got to get better."

On defense:
"I thought the defense played well. I'm worried about the long ball, so I kept throwing long balls to test them and help them to get better."

Quarterback Josh Portis

On the difference in playing one-hand touch rather than tackle:
"I've been telling the coaches, `Put a jersey on me.' It'd make the game a whole lot different. I'm limited because I can't use my legs, I can only use my arm. Fall will be different because I'll be live, and I can make plays."

On the team's performance today:
"Well, the weather didn't help. It was raining, it wasn't sunny, so the mood was down a little bit. Other than that I think we picked-up some things and there are things we need to work on."

Safety Christian Varner

On the quarterback situation:
"There's a lot of young guys. Of course Jordan [Steffy] has the most experience, and is mentally more mature. I also see a lot of physical attributes from Portis, and when he gets his mental status to where Jordan is I think he's going to be a great quarterback."

On how good the defense will be in 2007, compared to 2006:
"It's going to be a lot better. The guys have played together, so everyone knows each other and we know what everyone else is thinking. We're not trying to make plays for another person, we know they'll be there, and I can be where I need to be. We have that brotherly love now."

On what the team gained today:
"We did a lot of good things and a lot of negative things today. We know the summer is going to be big for our group. We're going to go out and work on things, and come together. We'll have a complete package for the season."

Linebacker Alex Wujciak

On going against the Terps offense:
"I think the offense played well. The linemen were doing really good, getting big blocks. The running backs played great; Morgan had a heck of a game, and he took a lot of carries. But I think Jordan and Chris both played well too."

On what the defense needs to work on, like stopping big plays:
"We have a lot to do. It's a long summer, and we still have fall camp. Everyone will be competing, and no one's job is set in stone."

Quarterback Jordan Steffy

On whether the quarterbacks were nervous:
"I wouldn't say it was nerves or anything. It's all about getting into a rhythm as a quarterback, and when there are five guys rotating out it's hard to do that."

On if he's ready for the quarterback battle to be over:
"I'm not concerned with that right now. We just have some work to do during the summer. The thing is that when everyone is fresh then everything goes well, but we have to work on what happens when we're tired."

On throwing a touchdown following the interception:
"Yeah, it felt good. I just threw a good ball and LaQuan [Williams] made a great catch. The one thing is I'm much more relaxed. Whether it's good things or bad things going on, I just feel more comfortable."
